Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has expressed regret over Mayor Shelly Oberoi politicising the enforcement actions against coaching centres operating illegally from basements. He stressed that the Municipal Corporation, under Ashwani Kumar's leadership, is addressing the issue holistically.
Kapoor highlighted Rajinder Nagar, where Rau's Academy was operating a basement library that suffered severe waterlogging due to clogged drains, leading to the tragic deaths of three students. He attributed the backflow and subsequent tragedy to the negligence of Minister Atishi and Mayor Oberoi, criticizing their failure to ensure proper drainage maintenance despite their assertions otherwise.
Kapoor urged Mayor Oberoi and other AAP leaders to stop interfering with municipal actions against illegal institutes and PG accommodations, allowing the Municipal Commissioner to handle them directly. He also called for action against Delhi Fire Service Chief Atul Garg for his decade-long neglect of city safety. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar submitted an inquiry report to Minister Atishi regarding the tragic incident, prepared by Superintending Engineer Ajay Kumar Nagpal.
