In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Kupwara Police have seized 16.5 marlas of land illegally acquired in the Khumriyal area of the Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. The property was acquired under Section 68(E) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS).

The land, owned by drug peddler Manzoor Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Jabbar Mir, has been taken into preventive custody. A case has also been registered against Mir, who was earlier detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS).

Kupwara Police have called on residents to assist in the fight against drug peddling by providing any relevant information. They emphasized that community cooperation is essential to combat this menace.

On the same day, Bijbehara Police seized a commercial complex valued at over Rs 2 crores. The complex, owned by the late Abdul Rashid Dar of Tulkhan Bijbehara, was identified as acquired through the illicit drug trade and is located at a prime location on NHW 44 at Semthan Bijbehara.

The properties include a building covering an area of 5 Kanal 12 Marla under Survey No. 291 Min, evolving from a case filed under Section 8/15-29 of the NDPS Act at Bijbehara Police Station. In September 2020, authorities discovered an underground room on Dar's compound containing substantial amounts of contraband substances, including poppy straw.

A total of 126 gunny bags weighing 2600 kgs and 60 plastic barrels (1395 kgs) of contraband were recovered, revealing Dar's involvement in promoting drug addiction among local youth. The contraband was stored for further illicit sale.

Anantnag Police have firmly responded to drug peddling by confiscating the commercial complex constructed with illegally acquired funds. (ANI)
