Leaders Rally Against GST on Insurance Premiums

Top political leaders are uniting to call for the removal of the 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on life and medical insurance premiums. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her support for this demand, emphasizing its detrimental effect on people's capacity to meet crucial health requirements.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has echoed these sentiments, urging the rollback of the tax in a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. His appeal has garnered backing from several opposition figures, including Congress MP Karti Chidambaram and Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Kumar Rai.

Banerjee cautioned that failure to address this issue would compel further action. The GST council, which will deliberate on this matter, is set to convene in August following their last meeting on June 22.
