The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated a significant two-day Conference of Governors at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Addressing the assembly, President Murmu emphasized that the agenda covered crucial issues for achieving national goals and stated that the discussions would enrich and aid participants in their duties.

With three new laws related to criminal justice, a new era has dawned on India's justice system, she remarked, citing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam as evidence of this change in thinking. Murmu also highlighted the need for better coordination among central agencies across all states for the smooth functioning of democracy.

President Murmu underscored the priority the Central government has placed on the development of disadvantaged groups and regions, particularly the Scheduled and Tribal areas, and urged governors to suggest ways to achieve inclusive growth in such areas. She also stressed promoting natural farming to boost soil fertility and farmers' income. The event was attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Vice President Dhankhar urged governors to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities and spread awareness about social welfare schemes. PM Modi called on them to act as effective links between the central and state governments and to engage with underserved communities. Amit Shah outlined the discussions for the two-day conference, emphasizing visits to vibrant villages and aspirational districts to inspire confidence and promote development.

Gulab Chand Kataria is the new Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde is now the Governor of Rajasthan, and Jishnu Dev Varma governs Telangana. Om Prakash Mathur, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Ramen Deka, and CH Vijayashankar will govern Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Meghalaya, respectively. C.P.
