Rural Nigerian Adaeze Akpagbula launched PenKeep, a remote-sensing device for poultry farms, after witnessing devastating chick losses due to unpredictable weather.

PenKeep monitors environmental conditions, alerting farmers to changes via SMS, email, or alarm, making it affordable and effective. Similarly, other innovators like Tanzanian Evodius Rutta and Kenyan Esther Kimani are also contributing with solar-powered dryers and pest detection devices, respectively.

With one in five Africans facing hunger and the continent being the hardest hit by climate shocks, these innovations are crucial. The United Nations reports a growing need for low-cost, sustainable solutions to mitigate the detrimental impacts on food production caused by erratic weather patterns.
