Ahmedabad Receives Rs 144.32 Crores for Rainwater Harvesting Projects

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved Rs 144.32 crores for over 7,000 rainwater harvesting projects across Ahmedabad. The projects will be undertaken via a Public-Private Partnership model under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday approved the allocation of Rs 144.32 crores for more than 7,000 rainwater harvesting projects in Ahmedabad's Northwest, Southwest, and West zones. The projects fall under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana and will be implemented through the Private Society Public Participation Scheme.

The scheme promotes public welfare projects via a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with funding split as 70:20:10. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has received applications for these projects from 7,497 societies, including 3,180 in the Northwest, 1,617 in the Southwest, and 2,500 in the West.

Chief Minister Patel announced the initiative on social media platform X, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing rainwater collection and raising groundwater levels. The construction of percolating wells will be undertaken in residential societies, multi-storied buildings, and apartments. This effort forms part of a broader strategy to expedite rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge in Gujarat.
