Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Saturday that the state government will construct 100 houses for victims of the landslide-hit Wayanad in Kerala. In a post on social media platform X, Siddaramaiah expressed solidarity with Kerala and stated, 'I have assured CM Shri @pinarayivijayan of our support and announced that Karnataka will construct 100 houses for the victims. Together, we will rebuild and restore hope.'

Meanwhile, the search and rescue operations in Wayanad, Kerala have entered their fifth consecutive day as several individuals are still feared trapped in the debris. The death toll from the landslides on July 30 in Chooralmala and Mundakkai of Wayanad has reached 308, according to Kerala Health Minister Veena George.

Officials reported that 215 bodies and 143 body parts have been recovered so far, including 98 males, 87 females, and 30 children. Post-mortem procedures have been completed on 212 bodies and 140 body parts, with 148 bodies identified by relatives. As many as 78 naval personnel have been deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations at multiple locations in Chooralmala and Mundakkai.

Rescue teams have been stationed at the river base to ensure a constant supply of materials, food, and provisions to the affected areas, while other teams are focused on searching for survivors, clearing debris, and recovering bodies. A medical post has been established at Chooralmala to provide medical assistance to those injured.

A team consisting of three officers and 30 sailors has joined forces with the Indian Army to construct a crucial Bailey Bridge over the river, connecting the isolated regions of Chooralmala and Mundakkai. The bridge is essential for logistical support, permitting the movement of heavy machinery and ambulances.
