Union Minister Ramnath Thakur announced on Saturday that the central government is intensifying efforts to limit the use of chemical fertilisers in agriculture and promote organic farming, particularly in the northeastern states.
Speaking at a press conference on the Union Budget 2024-25, Thakur highlighted the substantial increase in budgetary allocation for the agriculture sector under the BJP-led NDA government. He emphasized that the focus is on alleviating farmers' difficulties and enhancing soil health by minimizing chemical usage.
Thakur noted that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has ensured budgetary allocations for all states across various sectors, including agriculture. Additionally, the government aims to root out issues related to fake seeds and fertilisers within six months. Thakur also addressed the recurring issue of floods in Assam, stating that the government is actively seeking a permanent solution to prevent significant agricultural losses.
