India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Neetha K Gopal revealed that the monsoon will be weak for peninsular India, including Kerala, over the next three to four days. Speaking to ANI, the IMD scientist explained that the monsoon trough, which typically governs the region's rainfall, is causing this subdued activity.

Gopal further noted that there would be excess rainfall in states neighboring the Himalayan region, while the peninsular region will see reduced rainfall. She added that, as a result, Kerala will experience only light to moderate rainfall, possibly even less. The IMD forecasts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain for Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka. Rainfall is expected to be isolated to scattered in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema over the next five days.

The IMD also predicts heavy rainfall in isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Coastal Karnataka today and tomorrow. Kerala has been facing continuous rain since July began, with the recent landslides in Wayanad on July 30 resulting in over 300 casualties and significant property damage.
