Haryana Cabinet Grants Challaning Powers to Mining Officers

The Haryana Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, approved giving Mining Department officers challaning powers for goods vehicles carrying mining materials. This move aims to improve enforcement under the Haryana Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993. Additionally, the Cabinet revised pensions for retired judicial officers in line with SNJPC recommendations.

In a significant move, the Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, approved a proposal on Monday to grant challaning powers to officers of the Mining Department under the Haryana Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993. This decision empowers mining officers of the rank of Mining Officer and above to issue challans exclusively for goods vehicles carrying mining materials.

The newly granted powers are expected to bolster the department's ability to enforce regulations more effectively, specifically targeting the enforcement of provisions related to overloaded goods vehicles transporting mining materials. The enhanced vigilance aims to ensure compliance and curb illegal mining activities in the state.

In another important decision, the Haryana Cabinet also approved the revision of pensions for retired judicial officers, both Pre-2016 and Post-2016, according to the Second National Judicial Pay Commission (SNJPC) guidelines. Notably, for Pre-2016 retirees, the revision involves multiplying the existing basic pension by a factor of 2.81, as calculated on 31st December 2015, and rounding it off to the nearest higher rupee.
