Amid the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday assured that the Bangladesh-West Bengal borders are secure and there's no need for panic. The governor emphasized that the nation is taking effective measures to prevent unauthorized entry from Bangladesh into India.
"Our borders are secure. There is no need for panic. Beware of rumormongers," Bose stated. He called on the entire Bengal to stand united behind the government of India, which is taking strong steps to protect the borders. The Raj Bhavan has established a high-power watchdog committee to address any disinformation around the clock.
"Strict action will be taken against those spreading rumors and misleading information. The nation will take effective measures to prevent unauthorized entry into India," he added. Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence at Lok Kalyan Marg to discuss the situation in Bangladesh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the meeting, alongside senior officials. Sheikh Hasina, who landed in India on Monday evening after resigning amid mounting protests, held talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval at the Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad regarding the situation in Bangladesh and her future plans, sources said.
Sources revealed that the Indian Air Force has placed its personnel on alert in every eastern sector due to recent developments. Doval and senior military officials met Sheikh Hasina at Hindon Airbase, and she is being escorted to a secure location, other security agencies affirmed.
The protests in Bangladesh, primarily led by students demanding the abolition of a quota system for government jobs, quickly escalated into anti-government demonstrations. Local media outlet Prothom Alo reported that at least 95 people, including 14 police officers, were killed and hundreds were injured in clashes in Dhaka on Sunday. (ANI)
