Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with other party leaders, participated in an all-party meeting convened by the central government on Tuesday to address the crisis in Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will provide a briefing during the meeting, which is set for this morning, officials said.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post on Monday amid escalating protests. She arrived at the Hindon Air Base near New Delhi on a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft. According to the Dhaka Tribune, at least 135 people were killed on Monday in Bangladesh amid violent confrontations involving police firings, mob beatings, and arson.
Prothom Alo, quoting Dhaka Medical College Hospital sources, reported that 500 individuals were brought in with various injuries, including gunshot wounds, and 70 have been hospitalized. Following reports of Hasina's departure, crowds took to the streets in celebration, according to Dhaka Tribune.
The protests, primarily driven by students, initially demanded the end of a quota system for government jobs but escalated into a broader uprising against Hasina and her Awami League party. Local media outlet Prothom Alo reported that at least 95 people, including 14 police officers, were killed and hundreds injured in clashes in Dhaka on Sunday.
