India Gears Up for the 10th National Handloom Day Celebration

The 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated on August 7 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, and other dignitaries will attend. The event will honor weavers with awards and highlight the significance of India’s handloom sector.

The 10th National Handloom Day is set to be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will grace the event as the chief guest, alongside Union Textiles Minister, Giriraj Singh, and Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, a press release stated.

The ceremony will witness the presence of MPs, eminent personalities, designers, industry representatives, exporters, senior government officials, and more than 1000 weavers from across India. Highlighting the exceptional contributions of handloom weavers, the Sant Kabir Awards and National Handloom Awards will be presented. Additionally, Vice President Dhankhar will launch the Award Catalogue and Coffee Table Book, 'Parampara- Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India.'

First celebrated on August 7, 2015, National Handloom Day commemorates the Swadeshi Movement of 1905 and aims to honor handloom weavers, promoting cultural pride and industry motivation. This year, various activities are planned nationwide to raise awareness of the handloom sector's socio-economic impact, organized by State Governments, Weaver Service Centres, educational institutions, and other bodies.
