Assam CM Sarma Emphasizes Forest and Border Protection at Convocation

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the convocation of 940 newly recruited Assam Forest Protection Corps constables. Sarma highlighted the need for more forest protectors, the transparent recruitment process, and future development plans. He also addressed flood issues in Guwahati and concerns regarding recent events in Bangladesh.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma graced the convocation of Assam Forest Protection Corps constables at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon on Wednesday. At the parade ground of Dergaon Police Training College, 940 constables, comprising 90 girls and 850 boys, were formally inducted.

In his address, Sarma expressed joy in attending the convocation and underscored the rigorous training the new recruits underwent to meet the challenges ahead. He emphasized the growing need for additional forest protection corps due to the interstate border locations of Assam's forests, requiring them to double as border guards. Sarma emphasized the importance of transparent recruitment and applauded Assam Police for taking action against corrupt officials.

Sarma also announced plans for the national-level development of the Police Academy, the induction of 600 more soldiers into the Forest Protection Corps next year, and recruitment processes for jobs in villages and cities starting in October. Additionally, he discussed infrastructure improvements like five-star hotels in Kaziranga for luxury tourists and addressed artificial flooding concerns in Guwahati due to recent heavy rains and developments like USTM. Sarma also spoke about apprehensions regarding recent events in Bangladesh affecting Assamese and broader northeastern Indian security.

The ceremony concluded with constables repledging their loyalty and Sarma greeting the newly inducted soldiers. The event saw the presence of notable figures including Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patwari, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Chief Forest Conservator MK Yadav, and Assam Police Director General GP Singh.
