In a pivotal step towards improving India's coal evacuation infrastructure, the Ministry of Coal has announced a comprehensive strategy designed to accelerate the development of key logistics projects. This initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Modi's vision for "integrated planning & synchronized time-bound implementation," essential for realizing the ambitious Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Acknowledging the crucial role of coal in India's energy sector, the Ministry aims to alleviate logistics constraints that currently impede efficient coal transportation. To achieve this, the Ministry is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Railways, State Governments, and various agencies to tackle issues affecting the timely progress of infrastructure projects. This cooperative approach is set to streamline processes and create a more favorable environment for development.

Main Objectives of Coal Evacuation Infrastructure Projects:

Availability: Ensure adequate coal loading and evacuation infrastructure.

Optimization: Rationalize network logistics to optimize costs, loading, and transportation.

Modernization: Integrate advanced technologies, including AI, drones, and sensors, into infrastructure.

Integration: Develop a connected multimodal network and promote greener transportation methods.

Efficiency: Enhance logistics and transportation systems for timely and cost-effective coal movement.

Inclusivity: Address the needs of all stakeholders through inclusive practices.

Key Initiatives:

Increasing Production Capacity: Support the goal of producing 1.5 billion tonnes of coal by FY30, ensuring infrastructure development aligns with production growth.

Modal Shift to Rail Transport: Raise the rail transport share for coal from 64% to 75% by FY 2030, reducing road congestion and improving environmental sustainability. The Ministry has prioritized 38 rail projects for expedited development in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways.

Mandatory Mechanized Coal Handling Facilities: Implement mechanized coal handling at larger mines producing over 2 million tons per annum within five years to boost efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.

Integrated Infrastructure Development: Utilize the PM Gati Shakti initiative to enhance multi-modal connectivity and ensure coordinated infrastructure development across ministries.

Sustainability and Environmental Considerations: Focus on minimizing environmental impacts, adopting cleaner technologies, and aligning with India's climate goals.

Expected Outcomes:

The Ministry of Coal is committed to transforming India's coal sector through strategic planning and execution. By fast-tracking infrastructure projects and fostering stakeholder collaboration, the Ministry aims to establish India as a leader in sustainable coal production and logistics, setting the stage for a prosperous and developed nation by 2047.
