Mauritius Minister Refutes Tax Haven Label, Highlights Strategic India Collaboration

Mauritius Minister of Financial Services Sommilduth Bholah denied the tax haven label and emphasized the nation's compliance with international standards. He visited India's GIFT City to enhance collaborative efforts between Mauritius and India. Bholah pointed to Mauritius's robust financial infrastructure and highlighted ongoing Indian investments in Mauritius and Africa.

Mauritius Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Sommilduth Bholah, has firmly denied allegations that his country operates as a tax haven, citing its robust financial framework and compliance with international standards. Bholah highlighted the nation's unwavering stance on transparency and substantial business operations.

Addressing a delegation visit to India's GIFT City, Bholah aimed to bolster cooperation between the financial hubs of Mauritius and India. He praised Mauritius's financial infrastructure and strategic agreements, which facilitate significant investments, particularly in Africa, through the Mauritius route.

Bholah also underscored the historical and ongoing collaborative efforts between Mauritius and India, acknowledging India's instrumental support in multiple sectors, including infrastructure, health, and defence. He referred to the relationship as a 'super special relationship,' echoing sentiments from India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
