Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday called on the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) to collaborate with the state government in bolstering women empowerment and entrepreneurship through micro lending facilities.
'NEDFi can align with the state government to provide business opportunities to women working in self-help groups via the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme,' Sarma stated during NEDFi's 29th foundation day celebrations.
Under Phase I of the 'Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme,' beneficiaries will receive Rs 10,000 in the first year. In Phase II, successful women entrepreneurs will obtain Rs 25,000, with Rs 12,500 as a bank loan and the remainder granted by the state government. Sarma suggested NEDFi could aid by providing the loan amounts.
Commending NEDFi for its successful micro lending scheme launched in 2022, Sarma noted that 10,891 entrepreneurs have benefited thus far.
Expressing gratitude, he acknowledged NEDFi's role in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises in setting up industrial and infrastructure projects in the northeast.
Additionally, the chief minister launched a digital mobile app for the NEDFi Micro Lending Scheme.
