PM Modi Visits Landslide Survivors in Wayanad, Promises Immediate Aid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a relief camp in Wayanad, Kerala on Saturday, interacting with landslide survivors. The deadly landslides, which struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai on July 30, resulted in over 300 fatalities.
Before his ground visit, the Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey of the affected regions. Accompanied by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Muhammed Khan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi, he reviewed the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. Upon landing at SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta, Modi traveled by road to the disaster-hit areas, receiving briefings from Kerala ADGP (Law and Order) MR Ajith Kumar.
The Prime Minister will chair a review meeting with the Chief Minister and other officials. Kerala has requested that the central government declare the landslides a national disaster. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will examine the affected areas from August 8 to August 10. The Kerala government has committed to providing immediate assistance to those impacted, with adults from affected families receiving a daily allowance, according to the Chief Minister's Office.
