Senior Congress leader and general secretary, Jairam Ramesh, expressed deep condolences on Sunday over the death of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh. Ramesh described Singh as "a walking encyclopedia of the worlds of Nehru and Indira Gandhi" on social media.
Ramesh highlighted Singh's multifaceted personality, calling him "a hugely engaging political personality," a distinguished foreign service officer, and a cultured man of letters. Natwar Singh, Ramesh noted, was also an accomplished author, conversationalist, and storyteller who shared insights into historical correspondence.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also paid their respects. Singh passed away at 93, following a prolonged illness at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. His last rites will be held at Lodhi Road Crematorium on August 12. Singh had a notable career, serving as the External Affairs Minister from 2004 to 2005 and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1984.
