The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is gearing up for a significant foray into the equity markets, planning fresh investments worth around Rs 1.30 lakh crore in the current financial year, according to its MD and CEO Siddhartha Mohanty.

In the first quarter of FY25, the insurance giant invested approximately Rs 38,000 crore in equities, a noticeable leap from Rs 23,300 crore in the corresponding period last year. This period also saw LIC earn a remarkable profit of Rs 15,500 crore from its equity holdings, marking a 13.5 per cent increase quarter-on-quarter.

The market value of LIC's diverse equity investments stood at around Rs 15 lakh crore as of June. As of June 30, 2024, LIC held shares in 282 companies. The corporation's Assets Under Management surged to Rs 53,58,781 crore by June-end, compared to Rs 46,11,067 crore a year earlier, a 16.22 per cent rise.
