CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Launches Statewide HIV Awareness Campaign
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated an HIV awareness campaign on International Youth Day. This initiative, themed 'Click to Progress-Youth Digital Pathway for Sustainable Development,' aims to integrate AIDS patients into society, enhance health services, and promote youth engagement in sports and education.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday commenced a formidable statewide HIV awareness campaign in alignment with International Youth Day. During his speech, Sukhu reiterated the government's robust efforts to integrate AIDS patients into the social mainstream and unveiled the campaign's theme, 'Click to Progress-Youth Digital Pathway for Sustainable Development,' which will be celebrated at the village level in all districts until October 12, 2024. A highlight of the event was the flagging off of an awareness chariot and the initiation of a two-month-long Integrated Health Check-up Campaign.
Sukhu underscored the government's fiscal commitment, offering Rs 1,500 per month for individuals receiving treatment at Anti Retro Viral Therapy Centers and up to Rs 800 monthly for children under 18 living with HIV. Enhanced facilities include free bus travel for treatment seekers and anonymous HIV testing at government health institutions. He also addressed the pressing issues of drug addiction among the youth and the need for increased AIDS and HIV awareness. The event showcased an AIDS awareness exhibition and a cultural program.
Amid growing cancer cases, Sukhu revealed the government's collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research for a comprehensive study. Currently, 42 essential medications, including Trastuzumab, are provided free of charge to cancer patients in government hospitals. The Chief Minister also spotlighted significant reforms in youth sports, including increased diet allowances and upgraded travel facilities for athletes, alongside substantial cash incentives for medalists in international competitions. Emphasizing holistic development, he highlighted groundbreaking changes in the education sector, including the launch of Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools and the upgrade of 850 institutions into 'Institutes of Excellence' with advanced learning amenities. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil emphasized the pivotal role of youth in nation-building.
The gathering also featured the welcoming remarks from AIDS Control Society Project Director Rajiv Kumar, who elaborated on ongoing AIDS awareness initiatives, in the presence of Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, and other dignitaries.
