The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest march in Kolkata on Wednesday over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. BJP Mahila Morcha President Falguni Patra accused the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government of protecting the true perpetrator.

"We are protesting against the West Bengal Government over the incident that happened at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The government has done everything to protect the real accused. We demand his arrest. Women are extremely unsafe in West Bengal," Patra told ANI. The incident on August 9 has ignited widespread outrage and protest within and beyond the medical community.

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar criticized the silence of TMC MPs regarding the incident, suggesting that it indicated something suspicious. "In the doctor's team, many dubious topics have surfaced in their WhatsApp group, including drugs and sex rackets. The name of a particular TMC MP's nephew repeatedly comes up. Despite the gravity of the situation, there has been a conspicuous silence from women MPs of TMC," Majumdar stated.

In a show of solidarity, doctors nationwide continue to protest the murder and alleged sexual assault of the post-graduate trainee doctor, demanding justice. The demonstrations on Wednesday took place in Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, with protesters carrying placards stating "Justice needs to be served", "No duty without security", and "Justice delayed is Justice denied".

Earlier, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata to probe the case. Following a Calcutta High Court order, CBI has taken over and dispatched specialized medical and forensic teams from Delhi. Meanwhile, West Bengal Police brought Sanjoy Roy, the alleged accused, to the Central Government Offices Complex in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The OPD services at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital remained closed as junior doctors and the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) continued their nationwide OPD shutdown in protest. The post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of the college on August 9, with her family alleging she was raped and murdered.
