Telangana's Ambitious Plan: Chief Minister Aims to Transform State into Sports Hub

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed strong hopes that the youngest state of Telangana will soon become a pivotal hub of sports activity in the nation. According to an official press release, the Chief Minister has urged officials to take all necessary measures to promote Telangana as a leading destination for sports and games in the country.

During a high-level meeting with officials at the Secretariat on Monday, the Chief Minister discussed a government proposal to establish a world-class sports university. Officials provided various suggestions regarding the creation of the Young India Sports University in the Fourth City. CM Revanth Reddy emphasized that the university should prioritize every sport and incorporate all sports training institutions within its scope.

The Chief Minister further instructed officials to identify sports that are suitable based on the geographical and physical conditions of Telangana’s population. He highlighted the need to encourage those enthusiastic about pursuing sports as a lifelong career. Notably, CM Reddy aims to elevate Hyderabad, the host of previous Afro-Asian and Commonwealth Games, as a potential future Olympic venue.

In addition to aspiring to host the Olympics, CM Reddy stated that selected athletes would receive expert training at the proposed Sports University, ensuring that they achieve excellence and win medals. He called for the integration of all sports departments, government-run sports schools, academies, and training institutes under the university's jurisdiction.

The CM suggested focusing on sports such as shooting, wrestling, boxing, archery, javelin throw, and hockey, where Indian athletes have the potential to excel and win medals through rigorous training. He assured that the university would provide all necessary facilities, including diet, on par with international standards.

Revanth Reddy also proposed that teachers identify talented students in specific sports at an early age, with plans to establish sports schools in each Lok Sabha constituency for training. Despite a strong focus on sports, these schools will also offer regular education.

Selected students will receive accommodation and training in their chosen sport at the Sports University. The Chief Minister urged authorities to develop the Sports University in Hyderabad as the central hub for sports in the nation and emphasized the importance of taking all necessary actions towards this goal.

Officials have been asked to conduct a comprehensive study of successful Olympic athletes, examining their preparation and the support provided by their respective countries. The CM announced that integrated schools across the state, named Young India, will align with the vision of the Skill University and Sports University.

The Chief Minister concluded by expressing his wish for Telangana to become a brand for Young India, instructing officials to formulate plans to solidify the state's position as a producer of highly skilled athletes.
