Heavy rainfall swept across Gujarat on Monday, leaving many areas inundated. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported Baroda received the highest rainfall at 26 cm, while Ahmedabad saw 10 cm.
Waterlogging paralyzed several parts of Ahmedabad, forcing people and vehicles to navigate through knee-deep water. The chaos led to significant traffic disruptions.
State Education Minister Praful Pansheriya announced the closure of all primary schools on Tuesday as the IMD predicts continued heavy rainfall over the next 2-3 days.
Flooding has displaced hundreds of residents, prompting the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to initiate rescue operations in Valsad. One team rescued a pregnant woman from rising waters.
The Sardar Sarovar Dam's water level has risen, placing additional pressure on emergency services. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting to assess the situation and ensure safe evacuations from low-lying areas.
As of now, 17,827 people have been evacuated and 1,653 rescued. Thirteen NDRF and twenty-two SDRF teams are actively engaged in relief efforts across the state.
