Energy giant Enbridge has evacuated employees from multiple offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico due to the impending landfall of Tropical Storm Francine in Louisiana. The advancing storm has already disrupted oil and gas production for Chevron, Exxon Mobil, and Shell.
Enbridge has relocated staff from three offshore platforms—South Marsh Island 76, and Ship Shoal 207 and 332—while continuing operations remotely. South Marsh Island 76 is a significant hub that connects a natural gas pipeline capable of handling 1 billion cubic feet per day.
Additionally, the Manta Ray Gas Gathering system has declared force majeure at its Green Canyon 158 Brutus receipt point, suspending natural gas receipts until a malfunctioning valve can be replaced. This provision permits suspension of contracts due to unforeseen events, Enbridge confirmed to its customers.
