Farmers Demand Higher Soybean Price Amid Government Procurement Plan

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that soybeans would be procured in Madhya Pradesh at an MSP of Rs 4,892 per quintal. However, farmers demand Rs 6,000 per quintal, saying anything less makes cultivation unprofitable. A rally organized by Samyukta Kisan Morcha is scheduled to push this demand.

In a significant announcement, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated on Wednesday that the government will procure soybeans in Madhya Pradesh at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 4,892 per quintal.

Despite this, agitating farmers have pressed for a higher price of Rs 6,000 per quintal, saying that anything less would render soybean cultivation unviable. Various farmer organizations, particularly those affiliated with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, have been vocal about their demand.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s state media in-charge, Ranjit Kisanvanshi, emphasized that the agitation will continue until the government agrees to buy soybeans at the demanded price. A mega rally is planned in Harda district on September 13 to further vocalize their demands.

Earlier, Chouhan confirmed that soybean purchase proposals from Madhya Pradesh were approved by the Centre. This follows similar actions in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
