Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shazia Ilmi has cautioned the Aam Admi Party (AAP) against premature celebrations following the Supreme Court's decision on Friday to grant bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an excise policy-related case. Ilmi stressed that Kejriwal has not been acquitted of corruption charges, with a trial imminent.
"AAP should not rush to celebrate it. He (Arvind Kejriwal) has not gotten bail on the basis of his case but as a civil right. The trial will start soon. He has not been acquitted of the charges of corruption," Ilmi told ANI in Srinagar. Addressing claims by Congress amid the Sanjauli Mosque row, she noted official statements deeming the construction illegal, suggesting internal confusion within Congress.
Earlier, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal bail, citing that prolonged incarceration constitutes an unjust deprivation of liberty and imposed conditions barring him from public comments about the case and necessitating his presence at all trial court hearings unless exempted. AAP hailed the bail decision as a "victory of truth," but BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia mocked Kejriwal, calling him a 'bail wala' CM instead of a 'jail wala' CM.
