The Supreme Court has declined a petition seeking orders to curb noise pollution and regulate the use of light laser beams and loudspeakers in public spaces, gatherings, and events during festivals in Maharashtra. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, rejected the plea on the grounds that festivals like 'Ganapati puja' had already concluded in the state.
In its September 17 order, the apex court noted that the Bombay High Court had allowed the petitioner to present their case before the relevant authorities. The Supreme Court was hearing an appeal filed by 'Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat' challenging the Bombay High Court's April 20 decision that dismissed the PIL against the usage of laser beams and loud sound systems during religious processions and other ceremonies.
The Bombay High Court had stated that the petitioner could submit a representation to the appropriate authority or State government to take measures for regulating the use of light laser beams. (ANI)
