CBDT Reshuffles Key Roles Under Chairman's Supervision

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has reorganized responsibilities among its members. The investigation wing now directly reports to Chairman Ravi Agrawal. Other members such as Harinder Bir Singh Gill and Sanjay Kumar have been assigned new roles. The reshuffle follows the retirement of two board members.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has undertaken a significant reshuffle of responsibilities amongst its members. The investigation wing will now report directly to Chairman Ravi Agrawal, following an official order issued on September 24. Agrawal, a 1988-batch Indian Revenue Service officer, will oversee coordination and overall supervision of the board's work, including the investigation and intelligence directorates.

Previously, a member (investigation) independently managed the investigation wing, but this role was merged into the chairman's duties last year following a work re-orientation initiative. This was part of a broader reorganization that also saw the reassignment of responsibilities among other board members.

The new order has also designated Harinder Bir Singh Gill, a 1987-batch IRS officer, as member (taxpayer services and revenue) with additional responsibilities for systems and faceless services. Sanjay Kumar, a 1988-batch officer, will now oversee audit and judicial functions along with income tax duties. Other key appointments include Prabodh Seth as member (administration) and Ramesh Narain Parbat as member (legislation). The reshuffle was prompted by the recent retirement of two members, leaving the board with two vacancies.
