Three female grey langurs, termed Hanuman langurs, managed to escape from their open enclosure at the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo on Sunday evening, officials confirmed.

According to Manjula Devi, the director of Thiruvananthapuram Museum and Zoo, the escape occurred when bamboo trees surrounding the enclosure bent, allowing the langurs a pathway to freedom.

"We have four Hanuman langurs in total, three of which were brought from Haryana Zoo and one from Tirupati zoo. Three female langurs escaped somehow, and we noticed their absence this morning. They are all within the zoo premises, primarily on trees, and remain under our observation," said Manjula Devi in a statement to ANI. She affirmed the zoo staff is closely monitoring the situation, attempting to lure the langurs back to their enclosure.
