In a major boost to India's 'Make in India' initiative, the Royal Armed Forces of Morocco and Tata Advanced Systems have inked a deal for the local production of Wheeled Armoured Platforms.

According to Tata Advanced Systems, the collaboration, developed alongside DRDO and Tata Motors, heralds a significant milestone as the company expands its footprint abroad as a Defence OEM. The vehicles will be supplied to the Moroccan forces over the next three years, marking the largest contract for Indian-made armoured vehicles both domestically and internationally. Indian paramilitary forces have also placed orders for these indigenous armoured vehicles.

Over the last several months, trials for the vehicles have been ongoing in Morocco. Manufacturers will closely work with DRDO teams to incorporate upgrades during the supply period. The WhAP, an indigenously designed and developed amphibious wheeled combat vehicle, aligns with global trends focusing on modularity, scalability, and reconfigurability to suit various roles. Capable of navigating muddy terrains and withstanding mine blasts, variants like the Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV) have been inducted into the Indian Army and paramilitary forces.
