NSDL, a premier depository in India, has secured approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to launch its initial public offering (IPO), according to recent updates from the market regulator.

The IPO comes as a complete offer for sale (OFS) of over 5.72 crore equity shares by significant shareholders, including the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), State Bank of India (SBI), and HDFC Bank. This decision follows a year after NSDL's preliminary submission to Sebi in July 2023, and the observation on September 30 officiated the go-ahead.

Notably, NSDL won’t receive proceeds from the IPO due to its full OFS nature. The funds will be distributed among entities planning to divest their shares. NSDL is renowned for pioneering the dematerialization of securities in India over two decades ago.
