In a significant political development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) for its impressive performance in the recent assembly elections. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the National Conference-Congress alliance is set to form the government, having crossed the halfway mark with 49 out of 90 seats. The alliance secured 42 seats for the National Conference, 6 for the Indian National Congress, and 1 for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) - CPI (M).

Prime Minister Modi took to social media platform X to laud the JKNC's electoral success, while also expressing pride in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) efforts. The BJP emerged victorious on 29 seats, as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) acquired three and independents claimed seven. In a surprise twist, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won its first ever seat in the union territory at the Doda Assembly constituency.

During a recent election rally, PM Modi criticized the major regional parties, referring to them as 'three dynasties' responsible for Jammu and Kashmir's political and economic challenges. He argued that the Congress, JKNC, and PDP have historically indulged in corrupt practices, fostering terrorism for personal gains. Modi positioned the current electoral battle as a contest between the entrenched political families and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
