Tensions Rise as Drones Target Enerhodar Near Ukraine's Nuclear Plant
Ukrainian forces reportedly launched a drone attack on Enerhodar, near the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. No safety violations or radiation leaks were noted. Both Russia and Ukraine blame each other for shelling the site, and the IAEA has called for restraint amid escalating attacks.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian forces reportedly carried out a drone attack on Enerhodar, a city close to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, according to the region's Moscow-installed governor.
The plant's management confirmed that the site remained free of any safety violations and maintained a normal radiation background. The attack allegedly occurred approximately 300 meters from a reactor, though the report remains unverified.
The nuclear facility, which is Europe's largest, was seized by Russian troops in February 2022. All reactor units have been in 'cold shutdown' to mitigate nuclear risks. Amid rising tensions, the International Atomic Energy Agency has appealed for calm, with its chief, Rafael Grossi, noting an increase in attacks.
