Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the government will take continued action to control inflation and protect citizens from financial stress.

During the Budget discussion, Sitharaman reported a reduction in retail inflation, with CPI dropping from 5.22% in December to 4.31% in January. The government targets a 4% inflation rate as set by the Reserve Bank of India.

The session witnessed several clashes between the Opposition and government benches, particularly over state allocations, leading to some parties exiting in protest despite Sitharaman's insistence on equitable treatment for all states.
