Maharashtra CM Assures Security for Extradited 26/11 Plotter

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asserted that the state's jails are well-prepared to ensure the security of Tahawwur Rana, an accused figure in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, following his approved extradition from the United States. Citing the robust security measures previously implemented for Ajmal Kasab, one of the terrorists involved in the 2008 attacks, Fadnavis expressed confidence in handling Rana's custody.

Addressing the media after discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Fadnavis conveyed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in facilitating Rana's extradition. He highlighted initial reluctance from the US to extradite Rana despite substantial evidence linking him to the attack's planning. The Maharashtra CM lauded PM Modi's diplomatic efforts, which convinced President Trump to endorse the extradition, marking a significant development in the case.

The announcement of Rana's extradition was made by US President Donald Trump during a joint press briefing with PM Modi at the White House. Trump confirmed that the US administration approved the transfer of Rana, whom he described as one of the 'very evil' perpetrators of the 2008 attacks, to face justice in India. The decision follows proactive evaluations by the US State Department concerning the next steps for Rana, who is connected to co-conspirator David Headley.
