The Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has rolled out G-SAFAL (Gujarat Scheme for Antyodaya Families for Augmenting Livelihoods), a comprehensive initiative to support underprivileged families. The scheme—aimed at fostering economic independence and women's empowerment—targets 50,000 Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholder families spread across 25 talukas in 10 districts over five years.
Implemented by Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Limited under the Rural Development Department, G-SAFAL provides holistic support encompassing livelihood opportunities, financial inclusion, and social development. Beyond monetary aid, the initiative equips beneficiaries with skill training and guidance vital for breaking the cycle of poverty and achieving sustainable growth.
Structured around four pillars—social security, livelihood creation, financial inclusion, and social development—G-SAFAL empowers families by helping them create additional income sources. Beneficiaries receive Rs80,000 grants, training, and guidance to explore multiple income streams tailored to market needs, existing skills, and family specifics. Furthermore, efforts will integrate beneficiaries into the financial system by connecting them with banks and financial institutions.
The scheme emphasizes women's empowerment with dedicated field coaches providing personalized support to 40 families each. A digital dashboard ensures real-time monitoring of scheme progress, fund disbursement, and household development metrics. The initiative's implementation in specified districts aligns with the Government of India's Aspirational Blocks Programme, aiming to enhance living standards in 500 aspirational blocks.
