Ex-Madhya Pradesh MLA Convicted for Parliament Bomb Threat

In a significant judicial development, former Madhya Pradesh MLA Kishore Samrite has been convicted for allegedly threatening to bomb the Indian Parliament. The Rouse Avenue court ruled against Samrite under section 506 Part II of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), while acquitting him of charges under the Explosive Substances Acts.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Inspector Vivek Malik on September 16, 2022, regarding Samrite's letter that threatened Parliament with dynamite. Although the substance was not deemed an 'explosive,' the court confirmed that the letter constituted a credible threat of destruction, leading to his conviction.

Samrite, who was disillusioned with government policies, had dispatched memorandums placing his demands before authorities. Special Judge Vishal Gogne has scheduled the hearing on the sentence for February 27, where more arguments will be presented.
