BJP leader Locket Chatterjee emphasized the party's growing momentum by citing recent electoral victories in states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana. She expressed confidence in BJP's prospects for the 2026 West Bengal elections. The party's organizational meetings across states aim to bolster enthusiasm and support.
The BJP, however, faced a reduction in seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls compared to 2019. Tensions have risen in West Bengal, with Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and BJP MLAs staging protests against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her remarks on the Maha Kumbh.
Adhikari highlighted the need for compensation for the victims of the Maha Kumbh stampede, challenging Banerjee’s past compensation decisions. Protests in Kolkata led by BJP President Sukanta Majumdar condemned Banerjee’s comments, demanding action from the Governor and accusing her of disrespecting Hindu traditions.
