US Aid Suspension Pauses Key Nepal Projects
Seven US-funded projects in Nepal have been put on hold following President Trump's suspension of foreign development aid. The pause affects areas like education, health, agriculture, and statistics, as well as infrastructure projects under design. The Ministry of Finance didn't disclose funding details for these halted initiatives.
In a significant development, Nepal has announced that seven projects funded by the United States will be paused. This follows a directive from President Donald Trump, who has temporarily halted U.S. foreign development aid.
The Ministry of Finance reported that projects in education, health, agriculture, and statistics, under the funding of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), are affected by this 90-day suspension. Additionally, projects focusing on provincial and local administration, biodiversity, and climate remain in the design phase and have also been paused.
The financial implications of this action remain undisclosed. Nepal's government previously announced that major infrastructure initiatives, funded by the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation for power and road improvements, are also on hold. The financial strategy for these projects if aid remains suspended is yet to be addressed.
