The Supreme Court has made it clear that it will not intervene in the issue of toxic waste disposal at the Union Carbide Plant in Bhopal, as the Madhya Pradesh High Court has already taken charge of monitoring the process.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Augustine George Masih noted that the MP High Court is addressing the situation seriously, given the inefficient approach of the state government in handling the waste disposal.
The top court emphasized that any concerns regarding the case should be addressed to the MP High Court, which previously ordered the swift removal of toxic waste to Pithampur, engaging a Task Force with expert organizations like NEERI, NGRI, and CPCB. Lawyers Nachiketa Joshi and Sarad Kumar Singhania represented the state, while Sarvan Rita Khare appeared for the petitioner.
