The Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary, has spoken on two contentious issues gripping the region: the much-debated Gulmarg fashion show and the tragic killing of three civilians in Kathua. On the fashion show front, Choudhary pointed out that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had already taken a stance, launching an inquiry into the incident that has been the subject of severe criticism due to its nature.
Choudhary further stressed the government's resolve to get to the bottom of the matter. On the recent Kathua killings which left three civilians dead, Choudhary voiced his regret, urging police accountability in light of the region's rising crime rates. Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat also highlighted the urgency of these issues by raising an adjournment motion in the J&K Assembly.
Bhat stated to the media his intention to discuss the Kathua incident more thoroughly within the Assembly, characterizing the matter as a grave concern. Furthermore, Chief Minister Abdullah expressed censure over the Gulmarg event, noting its inappropriateness, especially during Ramzan, and reaffirming that it was organized privately without any official sanction.
