Government Seeks Parliament Approval for Additional Rs 51,462 Crore Spend

The government has requested Parliament's approval to spend an additional Rs 51,462.86 crore in the current fiscal year. This includes substantial allocations for pension and fertilizer subsidies, and is part of a larger Rs 6.78 lakh crore gross additional expenditure proposal. Savings and receipts will offset most of the costs.

The Indian government has put forth a proposal to Parliament seeking approval for an additional expenditure of Rs 51,462.86 crore for the fiscal year ending in March. The request forms part of a considerable financial package, totaling Rs 6.78 lakh crore, intended to cover various essential sectors.

The proposed allocation aims to address the increased need for pensions and subsidies, with Rs 14,100 crore earmarked for the Department of Fertilisers to support urea and P&K fertilisers. Furthermore, Rs 13,449 crore is designated for government employee pensions, including a significant contribution towards the Unified Pension Scheme.

Defense pensions will receive an allocation of Rs 8,476 crore, while Rs 5,322 crore is set aside for the Department of Telecommunications. Additional funds include Rs 2,186 crore for agriculture and Rs 3,722 crore for Jammu & Kashmir to help bridge the resource gap.
