The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has directed jail authorities to grant Christian Michel James, a key suspect in the Augusta Westland VVIP chopper deal case, permission to apply for a new passport. This measure is essential for Michel to meet the bail conditions set forth by the court.

As part of his bail terms, Michel must surrender his passport, which has since expired. On March 7, the court instructed him to secure a bond of Rs 5 lakh alongside a surety of similar value. Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal noted that the renewal must occur through the British High Commission.

Michel, extradited from Dubai in December 2018, has been in Indian judicial custody. His recent bail, approved by the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, is contingent on fulfilling various conditions. Advocate Aljo K Joseph continues to represent him as procedural requirements are executed.
