NLC India, a state-owned entity, faced significant hurdles in achieving its lignite production target for the fiscal year 2024, primarily due to delays in land acquisition, according to insights from a Parliamentary panel report.

The Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel revealed that while other major coal producers, including Coal India Ltd, successfully met their production targets, NLC India achieved only 83.36% of its lignite goal.

Against a target of 26.5 million tonnes set for 2023-24, NLC India produced 23.68 million tonnes of lignite. The panel emphasized the need to overcome the challenges hindering NLC India and SCCL to enhance performance and reinforce national energy security.
