Crackdown on Illegal Constructions: Power Utility Issues 1,229 Notices in Odisha

A power utility in Odisha has issued 1,229 notices for unauthorized constructions near electricity lines, citing safety concerns. The TPSODL highlighted the legal framework of the Electricity Act, 2003 and CEA Safety Regulations 2023, urging compliance and warning of potential consequences for non-compliance.

In a decisive move to uphold public safety, a power utility has dispatched 1,229 notices to individuals and establishments over alleged unauthorized constructions proximate to overhead electricity lines across eight districts in southern Odisha.

The initiative comes from the TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a collaboration between Tata Power and the state, which identified the highest number of infractions in Ganjam, followed by Koraput and Malkangiri.

TPSODL asserts that such constructions present a significant threat to safety and compliance with the Electricity Act, 2003, and CEA Safety Regulations, 2023, is necessary. Consumers receiving these notices are urged to take immediate action to adhere to legal requirements, or face possible power disconnection and legal proceedings.
