On Friday, an extensive series of meetings was conducted by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in Mumbai. With the background of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Minister Sonowal assessed crucial maritime projects, ensuring standard operations in the sector continue unhindered.
The review included a focus on seamless and regular cargo operations. Key organizations under the ministry were present, such as the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), and Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Ltd. (IPRCL). The progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Gujarat was among the flagship initiatives evaluated.
Highlighting India's push towards maritime self-reliance, Sonowal discussed strategic initiatives with National Shipping Board members. Urging fast-track development of the Greenfield Mega Port at Vadhvan, he emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a globally leading maritime India. Other crucial projects included Chabahar Port in Iran and Sittwe Port in Myanmar to expand India's maritime influence.
