Monsoon Fury: India Faces Early Rains and Widespread Floods

India's monsoon arrived eight days early, leading to heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging in many cities, notably affecting Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh is under a red alert due to flooding in the Beas River. Temporary relief is expected before more heavy rains later in June.

India's monsoon season made an early appearance this year, hitting the country eight days ahead of schedule. Major cities grappled with torrential rains and waterlogged streets, disrupting daily life. Particularly hard-hit was Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, facing severe waterlogging.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the monsoon reached wider regions, including western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. Additionally, a low-pressure system persisted over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, impacting adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

In response, the IMD issued red and orange alerts for Himachal Pradesh. Senior Scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma reported intense rainfall in the region, with landslide risks looming. While some respite from the rain is expected, heavier downpours are predicted to return by the month's end.
