Indonesia Aims to Boost Palm Oil Exports to India With Tariff Benefits

Indonesia plans to increase palm oil exports to India beyond 5 million tonnes by 2025, aided by reduced import tariffs. Alongside, 100,000 germinated palm seeds are being shipped to support India's palm cultivation expansion. A recent MoU seeks to address consumer misconceptions and bolster trade ties.

In a strategic move, Indonesia is poised to enhance its palm oil exports to India, projecting figures to surpass the 5 million-tonne mark by 2025. This development follows India's decision to lower import tariffs, as revealed by a senior industry official.

Indonesia, holding the title as the world's premier palm oil producer, is also contributing to India's palm cultivation ambitions by exporting 100,000 germinated palm seeds this year. The initiative aligns with India's National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm, which aspires to expand palm cultivation to 1 million hectares by 2025-26.

The Indonesia Palm Oil Council (IPOC) views India as a critical market, reaffirming its importance through a recent Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Vegetable Oil Producers' Association to boost collaboration and address concerns over palm oil's health impacts.
