UK Equities Rise Amid Mixed Earnings and Rate Cut Speculation
British stocks saw gains on Wednesday with the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 rising 0.2% each. Insurance and oil stocks led the charge, offsetting declines by Coca-Cola bottling units and Glencore. The market anticipates a Bank of England rate cut on Thursday as inflation remains high.
British equities made modest gains on Wednesday as investors evaluated a spectrum of corporate earnings and looked ahead to a potential interest rate cut by the Bank of England.
The FTSE 100 index rose by 0.2%, continuing its upward trend over the past three days following a dip to a four-month low. Likewise, the FTSE 250 index climbed 0.2%.
Insurance and oil stocks were among the top performers, while Coca-Cola's London-listed bottling firms experienced declines after quarterly reports. Investors are eyeing the Bank of England for cues, with a rate cut anticipated despite persistent inflation woes.
